Rio Fashion Week

This was recently reported in MSN Entertainment and I thot it good material for my blog here while it is still fresh.

The Brazilian capital lit up this week as designers put their best on show. Known for churning out the most stunning models in the business, Rio de Janeiro is fast becoming the fashion capital of note, as buyers, editors and stylists flock to Brazil for the next big thing.

Islamic glamour at its best!

Having searched and found a rather old article (imagine in 2004) from The Age, Australia, I am rather impressed that the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week actually featured this catwalk event. I am impressed that even back then, the Islamic fashion glamour has set standards beyond my imagination. The combination of fabrics with cultural and traditional fashion designing techniques and the use of creative pattern cuttings reflected a truly Malay religio-custom manifestation. Of course, the credit goes to Designer Iva Lativah. Her skills are expressed explicitly within the limited allowance of what a Muslim outfit is deemed appropriated. That is truly art and religion blending in harmony.

Within the stodgy silhouette of Muslim dress, there appears little room for innovation. No necklines to plunge, slots to add, no hemlines to hike or waistlines to kink. That hasn’t discouraged increasing numbers of fashion designers from tackling the ultimate challenge, however.

The straight-up-and-down featurelessness of the typical Muslim gown is in fact, the ideal canvas for a play of colours, textures, and patterns.

Designer Iva Lativah showed this heavenly foursome during Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, and defied the oxymoron, Islamic glamour.

Silk satin was quilted and cut into a boxy jacket that fell wide over a slimmer, but still generous skirt. Sheer black gauze was used as an overlay on brilliantly coloured and patterned kimono coats, and the graphic weave and prints on fine silks were used as headscarves, in block panels for tabard frocks, or as light stoles hooked through the models elbows.

Lovely stuff.

My whole previous postings wiped-out!

It was a sad day for me. After about 150 posting articles and 1.5 year of work, my blog was completely wiped out. I attribute this incident to my own doing. It happened during my Wordpress upgrade from version 2.7 to version 2.7.1. And my mistake was doing the upgrade from within my cPanel admin area.

And for those of you who are either adventurous or foolish, like myself, take note, only upgrade from within Wordpress admin area. The rests of the methods are out of bounds.

I learned an expensive lesson and paid heavily for it. Still, life goes on.

For about a week, there was desperation to restore from my backup. Apparently, upgrading from the cPanel Admin area means, the total database was replaced and restoration is not possible even though the data files may be intact. Hence, I decided to start anew from fresh. As a way of appeasing myself, I now have a clean piece of the web space to start from scratch.

Of course, the appeasement did not come without some wallowing. For one whole week, my children didn’t come close to me or talked to me. They must have sensed my ‘mood’ and stayed away.

I have come to my senses and I decide to take action in spite of the defeat.

I will persist! in faith and in confidence.  Malaysian Fabric Heritage is still alive!
